| Nile Special Premier League Team of the mid term | |
|
As we enter the second half of the Nile Special Premier League we at Fanzone have named our mid term team of the season .This is purely based on form and not reputation or the caliber of the players. We also look at players who have not played to their full potential which is a more diplomatic way of saying they have given sub par performances half way through the season
1.Brian Odong(Kobs): Very strong and mobile prop.If you can bully Brian Makalama at the scrum down, you must be special 2.Paul Barigye(Kobs): Terrier always in the thick of things, never one to shy aware from the dirty work. 3.Dennis Mugambi Murithi(Heathens):Steady improvement from the Kenyan motor mouth. He has gone about his duties efficiently and anchored the Heathens scrum very well. 4.Ambrose Kakuru(Mongers):The former U19 international has been a menace at the line outs, scrummages, good ball carrier, tackled hard and scoring important tries.Very much at the heart of Mongers first half surge. 5.Romano Ogwal(Impis): Same kind of player as Ambrose but deceptively powerful hence allowing him attack gain lines with a fair amount of success.Good jumper at the line outs and understands the variations very well. 6.Andrew Olweny(Mongers):This is make shift as he has been an outstanding 8th man and deserves mention on the starting team albeit not at his normal position.Best described as a landslide(forgive the pun) coming at you at the speed of knots. 7.Mathias Ochwo(Heathens): Special fetcher,a richie mccaw of sorts, very good at the turn over ball and a scrounger at the break down.Started the season slowly but was pumping like a piston in all key games. 8.George Scott '300' Oluoch(Heathens): Our MVP from last season has continued in the same vein, good ball carrier breaking tackles, sucking in at least 3 defenders with each carry. He has also bagged a number of important tries even on the rare off day. 9.Faisal Gamma(Heathens): Get's better like fine wine. This veteran has played rugby for donkey years and still manages to set standards.Surprisingly he is even clearing rucks and tackling, weak areas that cost him his national team position 4 years ago. 10.Benon Kizza(Heathens): A surprisingly easy transition from full back to fly half for this youngster.Till Benon played this season we had not yet seen a fly half penetrate and break lines in midfield since the mercurial Edmond Tumusiime hung up his boots last year. 11.Lawrence Wakabi(Kobs): Another dogged by injury but has been explosive in the few games he has played. His electrifying 60 meter try against a flailing Pirates defense is already a candidate for try of the season.Every time he get's the ball there is a sense something special is about to happen. 12.Tonny Luggya(Kobs): Though inconsistent due to injury this former international gave the most outstanding performance of an inside center against Pirates in what has been the game of the league so far. 13.Timothy Mudoola-Captain(Kobs): He may have been on the loosing side twice but he has led by example 14.Jude Kerrmundu(Heathens): League's top scorer and arguably last season's most improved player.Seems to have come out from no where and even surprised his own team mates and coaches last season. He has a languid lazy style of running that is elusive in itself as he is actually fast, coupled with the fancy foot work. Not yet the finished article but improving rapidly 15.Allan Musoke(Kobs): Veteran has used his experience to sometimes practically carry Kobs on his shoulders while at the same time defending well against certain would be tries.Excellent sweeper and still a lethal game breaker.
Replacements
16.Alexander Mubiru(Heathens): Since he became a captain he looks lost sometimes as he seems to be doing more talking than playing. Has given some good performances but he had better grow into than captains role quickly and get his all round industry back. 17.Brian Makalama(Pirates):This 130 Kg veteran though upstaged in some key games( most notably against Kobs Brian Odong when he was shoved back on the tight side) has organised his forwards very well especially at those devastating Pirates mauls. 18.Dan Canowira(Pirates):Steady improvement from the flanker by far Pirates best player this season.Bagged a good number of tries. 19.Roger Rukundo(Kobs): Top 8th man last season.Flair backrow and very slippery character with an amazing workrate. 20.Joseph Nsubuga(Mongers): Real live wire, this half back.Clever and rapid around the base with booming box kick 21.Lenny Kikonyogo(Rhinos):Just above average in the first half of the season.Lenny if you stopped the show boating and focused a little the results will be incredible. 22.Dennis Etuket(Pirates):Top try scorer in the league but needs to show these stats count when he faces the top sides. Not yet done that.
Coach: Peter Magona(Heathens)-Returned to rugby grass roots after loosing the URU presidential elections in style by turning around Heathens fortunes with a grand slam.Still not yet defeated,he has led Heathens to one of the longest winning streaks in Uganda rugby history. Assistant coach: Joe Scale(Nile). The fact that a game against Nile can actually be very difficult and they have even garnered a win away from home speaks volumes about a coach who has been at the helm for barely 2 months. If you know Nile's recent record you will understand where we are coming from.
Sub par performances
1.Moses Soita: Anonymous, even at the line outs. 2.Eric Butime: Who is that? 3.Joel Kimuli: Walking on very thin ice. 4.Brian Jjemba: Average 5.Ambrose Kamanyire: Has he recovered from the intercept? 6.Philip Karumuna: Seems to be suffering from the curse of the captain's arm band.Better second half expected from him
Coach: Do we really want to go there?Let us save it till the end of the season
