Entebbe Mongers pick up a stunning win on the road against record league Kobs at Kampala Rufc

Last week we were treated to a rare mid week game at Makerere University grounds popularly known as the grave yard.

After a poor 36-0 loss to G4S Pirates in their first game of the season Makerere University Impis have won 3 straight games after edging Buffaloes in a closely contested match. The Impis scored to tries to Buffaloes 2 penalties. Impis now lie 5th on the table but face a daunting task this Wednesday when they play another delayed game against in form league leaders Heathens at Kyadondo grounds.

Kobs fall to giant killers Entebbe Mongers

Record league champions Kobs have flattered to deceive. They have shown flashes of brilliance against sides like Pirates only to get annihilated by defending champions Heathens. A defeat they do not seem to have recovered from if their shock 7-3 defeat at home to Mongers a side that was only promoted to the Super 8 in 2008.Mongers controlled the game and looked more like the home side. The winning try came from a pick and drive move that saw lock Ambrose Kakuru score a try that was converted by Adrian Wasswa. Kobs remain 3rd on the table only 1 point ahead of dark horses Mongers from Entebbe. Kobs have not even scored a try in 2 games and have not scored a point in the second half in their last 3 games. As to whether you can read much into this remains to be seen. The Kobs line up against the clever boys from Makerere Impis next and will be looking to rediscover their scoring form, if they are to stop their worst losing streak to date.

Heathens steam roll continues

Heathens veteran scrum half Faisal Gamma scored one of the fastest tries in local rugby inside one minute from kick off.He showed great peripheral vision to dart down the unmarked blind side of a ruck to score in the corner as a static Pirates defense looked on, hands akimbo.Fly half Benon Kizza converted from a tight angle. Pirates replied immediately and scored a push over try, after some impressive mauling but fly half Joel Kimuli missed the easy conversion.Heathens ended the half with a 10-5 lead after fly half Benon Kizza kicked in a penalty. At the restart Heathens drew first blood after some impressive straight running from prop Mark Arwatta Ocwich.Scott '300'Olouch rounded off from Benon Kizza hospital offload.By this time Heathens had a vice like grip on the game;Mathias Ochwo broke 2 tackles for a similar try to the one he scored last week while winger Jude Kerrumundu's mazy run through the stationery Pirates secured the bonus point victory. This despite the best efforts from Pirates 320Kg prop Brian Makalama who had given Pirates a faint glimmer of hope with a pick and drive try.Unbeaten Heathens now go to the top of the Nile Special Rugby League table with a game in hand.If Heathens defeat Hima Impis in this week's mid week match then they will have finished the first half of the season unbeaten. That said Heathens are yet to play a single game away from home, and should find the second round a bit tougher going.

Rhinos stop Nile at home

Rhinos notched an important second league victory away in Nile to move to 6th place above Nile and Buffaloes. This is Rhinos second away victory as they wrap up their second round games.

That was our weekly wrap.No doubt the party in Entebbe raged like a bush fire if you get my drift.
