Kyadondo Rugby Club Hosts Awards Dinner

Kyadondo Rugby Club hosted its annual awards dinner on Saturday 12th December 2009. The dinner was attended by among others the Chairman of the Uganda Rugby Union Mr. William Blick, Sponsor Representatives from Toyota, KK security and specially this year the fans. Kyadondo which houses five teams 2 women’s (Rangers and Thunderbirds) and 3 men’s (MTN Heathens, Toyota Buffaloes and Saracens). The dinner is held annually to thank the members and other stakeholders for their efforts during the year. 2009 was extra special for Kyadondo as the main team Heathens won all trophies on offer.

Speaking at the dinner the club Chairman Jonathan Kamukama thanked all the members and emphasized the role of Kyadondo in the community of Nakawa which he pledged the club would continue to play. Also speaking at the event the Uganda Rugby Union Chairman congratulated Kyadondo and thanked the Chairman for hosting the event. He also shared the plans for Rugby next year, which will see extra emphasis on 7s rugby considering the rising prominence of 7s and the fact that Uganda will be participating in next year’s commonwealth games in India. The chairman also shared the new strategic alliances that the Union has cultivated with the Unions of South Africa and Wales respectively that will see Ugandan teams at all age grades get a chance to use the high performance center in Cardiff and also see Uganda teams tour Wales. The Chairman also pledged that Heathens having won everything this year would get a chance to tour Kenya early next year in the preseason courtesy of the Union. The club specially awarded  for showing the true spirit of the club, Jude Okello for all his volunteer efforts to make sure Kyadondo continues to function, also recognized in this category were members William Nzarubara, Julius Nkuraija who doubles as Team Manager for the Buffaloes and Joseph Otte.
