The CAR U19 Africa cup is going on in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The Uganda team arrived in Abidjan on Saturday 24th July. They were scheduled to play right after arrival but luckily for them, there were no fields available, so all games were moved to today.

The teams in attendance are Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Morocco, Tunisia, Ivory Coast and Zambia.

In the first game for us today Vs the Kenya U19, our team led by Inspirational captain, Ivan Cadri held off early pressure to score the first points courtesy of a penalty by flyhalf Ochen Jasper. After getting their footing, the Uganda boys turned the heat on scoring a try by centre Raymond Kasule. Maverick no.8, Adnan Mutebi of the schools champs, King's College Budo then rounded of some great fowards play by a pack dorminated by his fellow school mates with a great try in the corner. Kasule raymond completed his brace finishing off a great backline move after the forwards had once again made the hard yards to complete the victory. Final score UGANDA 20 KENYA 00. Earlier in the game, defending championsZimbabwe had beaten the hosts 31-00 in a game that was so filled with punch ups that it threatened not to see a successful conclusion. The Ivory Coast team were clearly not set to play clean rugby and a full blown punchup erupted during the second half that had both teams engrossed in a repeat of the 1970's Muhammed Ali classic " RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE". Right on now is the North African Derby with Tunisia taking on Morocco, that going by history might also have more than just the odd legal rugby tackles. Namibia was set to take on Zambia, but the Southern Africans have not arrived yet, so Namibia will proceed to the semi finals. In the semis lineup, Uganda battles Zimbabwe(defending champs) while Namibia battles the winner of Tunisia and Morocco. The rest of the teams will now play classification games.

We always do well @ U19 but the transformation to senior rugby from club to national has declined in the last 4 years. The union and respective clubs have to work hand in hand in managing the transition from U19 to senior rugby.Otherwise good job by the team & best of luck against Zimbabwe in the semis
