The ugly head of terrorism continued to grip the head lines with URU withdrawing the national team from their final fixture away against Zimbabwe.According to the Newvision http://www.newvision.co.ug/D/8/30/726248 URU called off the trip citing psychological trauma suffered by national team players as a result of the bomb blasts at Ethiopian restaurant and Kyadondo RFC.There are no known causalities from the rugby fraternity. “We took a decision last evening and agreed on the position and I am to communicate to Zimbabwe rugby union tomorrow (today),” URU secretary Alex Kalimugogo told New Vision. There are vast implications for not honouring international fixtures, especially if Zimbabwe appeals to Irb but the URU secretary informed the Zimbabwe RFU president understood Uganda's predicament would accept the withdrawal.Uganda also failed to send match officials and a match commissioner to handle the Zimbabwe versus Kenya Victoria Cup game last week in Harare.Kenya in dominating fashion came from behind to earn their first victory in Zimbabwe winning the tie 23-18 to clinch the grand slam. The news of Uganda's withdrawal was however met with mixed reactions as reported in the New Vision http://www.newvision.co.ug/D/8/30/726327 with different club chairmen questioning Uganda's withdrawal from the final Victoria Cup leg. Pirates RFC chairman George Mbalu had this to say, “I am not privy to that information of canceling the trip but if true, that is a very big mistake. We needed that game for CAR preparations.” While Kyadondo RFC chairman Jonathan Kamukama whose grounds were the scene of one of the bombings said ''It's clear we had lost both the Elgon and Victoria Cup to Kenya, it might be issues of finances but our players could have benefited from the exposure in Harare ahead of CAR tournament.'' However former country Manager Herbert Wafula said many players were psychologically affected by the bombings and were not in the right frame of mind to participate in an international match just 2 weeks after the bombingsWith Uganda pulling out of internationals as a direct result of the 7/11 bombings there are uncertainties as to whether the country will participate in the up coming CAR group matches in Windhoek Namibia at a yet to be confirmed date but expected to start next month in August.URU Development Manager Ramsey Olinga how ever dispelled these fears confirming Uganda will participate in the CAR Africa Cup group phase in Windhoek.Uganda is grouped with Namibia,Kenya and Cameroon.
