Former league champions UTL Kobs have named former national team coach Yayiro Kasasa as their new head coach. Kasasa stepped down as the national team coach. His legacy includes  he CAR 2nd tier tournament in 2002 and was part of the coaching team that won the 2006 Elgon Cup and 2007 CAR Africa Cup. He is presently the national team coaching coordinator and Rugby Manager at URU. Kasasa replaces Herbert Wafula who failed to get UTL Kobs back to winning ways after they lost the 2008 league title. Herbert Wafula was initially brought in to replace Geoffrey Mabonga as heads continue to roll in the pressure cooker of coaching one of Uganda’s most successful rugby clubs.

Yayiro Kasasa is arguably one of Uganda’s best players ever; he featured for Kobs in the late 80′s and 90′s. He took part in those legendary battles against fierce rivals Heathens. Ironically Kasasa had a short stint with Heathens in the mid nineties  90′s before returning to Kobs. In 1998 he played rugby overseas in New Zealand for Manukau counties and also trained as a coach. Kasasa will immediately take charge of Kobs in the Uganda Cup knock out competition that commences next weekend. Though Kasasa has not coached at club level for about 6 years, it his hoped his international experience can bring success to the despairing Kobs fans and demanding Kobs Executive committee.

In a related development Peter Magona who led Heathens to a 2009 grand slam season and won the 2010 Nile Special league with only one game lost, has stepped down as Heathens Head Coach due to work related commitments. Former Heathens Captain Brian Tabaruka has been appointed Head Coach to replace Peter Magona. Brian Tabaruka will also double as a utility player. Tabaruka is the current national team manager and retired from the national team in 2007-after winning the CAR Africa Cup as one of the most capped players. The jury is still out as to whether in his first tenure as coach he can control  the complex nature and personalities that define Heathens.
